Ryan R. Atkinson

Mr. Atkinson graduated from Transylvania University in Lexington with a B.A. in 1991 and from Ohio Northern University with his J.D. in 1995. Prior to opening Atkinson, Simms & Kermode, he worked for the Kentucky Long-Term Policy Research Center and the United States Bankruptcy Court, including two years in the chambers of Judge William S. Howard.

Mr. Atkinson is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and is admitted to practice in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Atkinson is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees. His areas of practice include consumer and business bankruptcy and reorganization, bankruptcy litigation and bankruptcy trustee representation.

Mr. Atkinson lives in Lexington with his wife, Lisa.

John Simms

Mr. Simms graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. in 1991 and received his J.D. from the University of Louisville in 1995. Prior to starting Atkinson, Simms & Kermode, he was engaged in practice with Hayden & Butler P.S.C.

Mr. Simms is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and is admitted to practice in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky. Mr. Simms is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. His areas of practice include consumer and business bankruptcy and reorganization, bankruptcy litigation and bankruptcy trustee representation. He has lectured numerous times on personal bankruptcy.

Mr. Simms lives in Lexington and has three children.

Mr. Kermode received his B.A. from Indiana University in 1992 and his J.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1995. Prior to starting Atkinson, Simms & Kermode, he was engaged in practice with Clark, Ward and Cave and Woodward, Hobson and Fulton.

Mr. Kermode is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He is admitted to practice in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. His areas of practice include bankruptcy and reorganization. He has lectured and been published on personal bankruptcy issues.

Mr. Kermode lives in Lexington with his wife, Joyce, and their son.

Mark Bubenzer

Mr. Bubenzer graduated with a B.A. from Northern Kentucky University in 1974 and Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1978. Mr. Bubenzer has served as the Kenton County (KY) Assistant County Attorney, Director of the Kentucky Crime Commission and Director of the Division of Grants Management. Practicing law in Frankfort for 25 years, Mr. Bubenzer is pleased to join the law firm of Atkinson, Simms & Kermode to continue serving those in the Frankfort area.

Mr. Bubenzer is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and served as Chairman of the KBA Criminal Law Section from 2010-2011. He is licensed to practice in the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Westerns Districts of Kentucky. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is a member and serves on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (KACDL).

Clair Edwards

Ms. Edwards received her B.A. from Eastern Kentucky University in 2005 and her J.D. from Western Michigan University in 2008. Prior to working with Atkinson, Simms & Kermode, she was engaged in practice with DelCotto Law Group and O’Bryan Law Offices.

Ms. Edwards is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Fayette County Bar Association, the Louisville Bar Association and the Pulaski County Bar Association. She is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees. She is admitted to practice in the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, as well as the Southern District of Indiana.

Her areas of practice include consumer and business bankruptcy and reorganization, bankruptcy litigation and bankruptcy trustee representation. She has lectured many times on personal and business bankruptcy matters. In addition to being a 2016, 2017, and 2018 Kentucky Super Lawyer “Rising Star,” she was named the Fayette County Bar Association’s 2016 Young Lawyer of the Year.

Ms. Edwards lives in Somerset with her husband, Rob and their two children.
